in the undiscovered heartland of northern Majorca
Many come to Mallorca with a vision of miles of sun-kissed beaches and dance-until-dawn nightclubs. Of course, with almost sixteen million visitors every year, this #1 European holiday destination offers busy resorts, endless tourist activities, packages of all sorts, sea and sun and sand or sex...
But happily there is another Mallorca not far in distance but far in style from this and the towers of steel and concrete sprung up along the craggy coastline. It's the Mallorca where one can still see farmers tilling their fields with a mule and a wooden handled plough. It's the Mallorca where one can still find cozy villages tucked away in valleys with rolling hills providing excellent opportunities for cyclists. But it's also the Tramuntana, this jewel of the Balearic isles, which rises to nearly 5,000 feet at Puig Mayor offering many possibilities for hikers seeking wild walkways and stunning views.

This is the promise of a different kind of adventure in the unspoilt interior of Mallorca that convinced the Rossello family to meticulously restore their century-old finca secretly nestled on the edge of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains that run the full length of Mallorca's north-west coast offering a stunning drive all the way down to Andratx, via Puig Major, Deya and Valdemossa.
The historic old town of Pollensa and the sea-side resort of Puerto Pollensa are both nearby, as well as Inca ("City of leather") or Alcudia (whose crenellated walls date back to the 14th century) and its quiet Mal Pas Peninsula district with two protected white sand beaches for bathing in lovely crystalline waters.
SON SIURANA dates back to 1784 and has belonged to the Rossello family since the 18th century. It is a superb rural retreat estate surrounded by more than 100 hectares (250 acres) of sheep pastures, almond and fig trees. The main house is surrounded by a lovely sun terrace overlooking the pool, and the magnificent gardens and farmland. The beautiful rooms in the main building and the luxurious self-catering cottages slotted into the farm's outbuildings are all tastefully furnished throughout and decorated in typical Mallorcan style, combining the most modern facilities with the old-world Spanish charm (hand-painted tiles, terracota or wooden floors and many antiques). Meals are thoughtfully prepared and can be described as country house style with a modern Mallorquin twist.
This is not really a traditional hotel as it feels like you have been welcomed into an authentic large family finca to spent some stress-free days, to breathe the clean mountain air, and enjoy the peace of tranquil olive groves where the only sound is that of distant sheep bells.
