They dreamed it - They designed it - They built it - They run it
In a region populated with mostly indifferent accommodation, luxury Hotel Portimao CASABELA is the exception that rises above the mediocrity as a model of excellence and elegance. If you have ever wondered what the Algarve was like years ago, this is definitely the place to go. Don't miss the enchantment of an early February short-break when the whole countryside is blanketed with white almond blossom.
The Casabela Hotel Portimao resort will never be affected by the tourist traffic that has invaded the towns around, simply because the hotel is surrounded by 6 hectares of land. It has now became an astonishing green oasis of the good life and a welcome haven of peace expertly managed by a multi-lingual couple much in evidence in the hotel.

Algarve Local Attractions
You can find local attractions of real excitement close to the luxury Algarve Hotel Portimao Casabela - either for a short day trip or just a few hours.
Of course you can choose to live at this luxury Algarve hotel as a poetic retreat, just simply but gorgeously. One could enjoy solitude and not suffer too much. But another good thing about CASABELA is that it can be a useful base to start some interesting sightseeing tours and return to ancient times.
"The End of the World"
A must-see in the Algarve is a visit to "The End of the World" ....
what happened here six centuries ago led to the discovery of the world as we know it today !
(It's a day trip and well worth a visit)
It's in Cabo do Sao Vicente, continental Europe's most south westerly point with the impressive Sagres fortress,
from where Prince Henry the Navigator (1394-1460) sent forth the Caravels which were to bring back the riches of Africa
and lay the foundations of the great maritime Portuguese Empire.
The Age of Discovery had then just started ....
well before Bartolomeu Dias and Vasco da Gama.
All Henry's expeditions moved slowly due to the mariners' belief that waters at the equator were at boiling point, that human skin turned black,
and that sea monsters would engulf ships .....
Don't miss there the famous "Rosa dos Ventos" (Wind Rose), a giant rose-shaped compass of 43 meters (141 feet) in diameter for measuring the wind
direction that has survived the centuries. This equipment was state-of-the-art in the 15th century and is believed to date from Henry's lifetime.
Ferragudo
Ferragudo is approximately 5 minutes drive from the luxury Algarve hotel Portimao Casabela or 20 minutes walk along the beach.
Built around its 16th century fort on the eastern bank of the river Arade, it is a charming
uncrowded Algarve fisherman's village which still remains unspoilt. You'll enjoy the square whitewashed houses with flat roof
terraces and chimneys that are evocative of Moorish architecture and the narrow winding cobbled streets leading to the fish quay
or the pretty square which hosts some attractive cafes.
Silves
Silves is approximately 20km from the luxury Portimao Hotel Casabela and the Rio Arade.
This picturesque quiet little town in the Algarve, reached across a 12th century bridge, was once guarded by the Arab castle set on the hill-top. The interesting
Gothic Cathedral built on the sight of an ancient Mosque was partly damaged during the earthquake of 1755. For thousands of years, Phoenicians,
Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors sailed up the river towards this city with intent to trade or conquest. Today you can hire a boat and take
the same exciting course on the Arade river.
Monchique
Monchique is approximately 30km from this luxury Algarve hotel - less than one hour's drive.
In addition to the renowned thermal spa with great panoramic views over the Algarve coast,
the baroque Misericordia Church and the 17th century Hermitage are both worth the visit.
At the nearby lovely village of Caldas de Monchique (developed in Roman times as a spa) try the curing elements of the
sulphur smelling hot spring water that emerges at a constant temperature of 32°C (90°F).
