‘O Parrucchiano Restaurant
250 meters from the Grand Hotel La Favorita Sorrento in a “Locale Storico d’Italia”.
Founded in 1868, this “Trattoria” is now world famous for being the place where the popular dish of “Cannelloni” was first served. Eating there is like being in a large garden among lemon and orange trees. A unique atmosphere.
The legendary resort of Sorrento – location of the Grand Hotel La Favorita Sorrento – is spread out along the crest of its fabled cliffs and is by far the most practical and attractive location to choose as a base for leisurely excursions, be they by boat or ferry (traghetto), hydrofoil (aliscafo) or SITA (public transportation). Should you decide to rent a car – and there is a good selection of rental companies close to the Grand Hotel La Favorita Sorrento – be sure the vehicle, the driver and the passengers are fully covered by the insurance. Carefully check the horn is working well, then follow the flood and … don’t drive slowly! In any case, you’ll need about two days to get used with the traffic and the way the Italians are driving. They are unique, very skilful and always happy to overtake – so let them do so!
Sorrento is an unpretentious lively town with a maze of narrow streets filled with trendy shops and boutiques, cheerful bars and open-air bistros [singlepic id=12 w=213 h=160 float=right]but also with superb gardens, interesting museums and a vibrant night life, and Grand Hotel La Favorita Sorrento at its centre. Sorrento is indeed one of the loveliest towns in Italy – a drawcard for tourists from all over the world. Flowers are everywhere, colourful red-and-white petunias in large urn-shaped planters, brightly coloured geraniums in the window-boxes which one finds on most houses and planted in mass displays of brilliant colour in hotel grounds. Bougainvillaea trail up the fronts of houses and across the pergolas of outdoor cafes and garden arches … there are few sights to equal a Sorrento sunset!
Sorrento and Pompeii – 2000 years in a time warp
Che bella cosa, na jurnata ‘e sole,
n’aria serena, doppo na tempesta !
…’O sole, ‘o sole mio ..
Immortalized by the famous Neapolitan tenor Enrico Caruso and later on by Elvis Presley – “It’s now or never” – ‘O sole mio’ is certainly the most well known local song you can heard in the entire world, and travellers to Italy have not fully experienced this fascinating country if they neglected this area that stretches from Napoli to Sorrento (home to the Grand Hotel La Favorita Sorrento), Positano, Ravello and Amalfi or missed the boat ride to Capri.
This is where most people’s preconceived ideas of Italy become reality.
The spectacular Bay of Naples, the Sorrentine Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana) provide some of the finest scenery and several famous archeological sites like Herculaneum (Ercolano) and Pompeii, a UNESCO world heritage site.
“Many disasters have befallen the world, but few have brought posterity so much joy” wrote the German poet Goethe (1749-1832) after touring Pompeii
